Chapter 17

Since he’d gotten the Areve back, setting up the compilers to start the production of the Runners and the new Carapace Powered Armor was easy. Julian had to add a new conveyer belt to bring in carapace to the construction array - he’d been able to incorporate it into some of the armor for the runners, cutting the Iron Sheet cost in half. That, plus the savings by switching from the Mark I armor to the carapace variant, meant most of the modifications they’d made to reduce production costs could have been avoided. Julian was still glad for them. With the very real possibility of siege at some point in the future - if not from this threat, then from another - he liked that they were able to build up an iron stockpile for if expansion became difficult.

In the meantime, Vartian explained Folas. Folas was an up and coming god who was rapidly growing in the pantheon of the Green, and as a Gold tier God, he was already eyeing a seat on the Pantheon. Reserved to Platinum gods that did not ascend to another realm, the Pantheon was the governing body of the Green - what they called the Civilized Lands.

“I’ll be honest,” Vartian said, nodding back towards the town. “When I first came out here, I expected to have to slaughter my way into getting a place. The way they tell it, everyone out here is either half rabid, half mad, or just savage. It was unexpected to find a real civilization out here, and people living lives that didn’t revolve around war. With the way things are going, you’ll have all the comforts of a real society.”

Julian pursed his lips at the phrasing, glad that his back was towards Vartian. He was adjusting the controls on the Compiler. This one was for the Dunerunners, and had to be up and running first, since they would finish before the others. Still… ‘real society?’ what did that even mean? Julian shook his head. Time for that later. At least Vartian was acknowledging that he’d been wrong about the Wastes, which was more than Syndri had ever given him. “And Folas believes similarly?”

“I don’t know,” Vartian said. He was leaning against one of the conveyer belts, biting down on an apple, and scanning the sky for possible threats. Or, more likely, for any rogue pigeons. He really hated the animals. “Folas was given a post managing all the messages the pantheon receives. That includes spy reports from the Wastes. I only got reports like that sometimes. It’s how I learned about you, after all. But Folas got a much more complete picture. He’d likely know better than anyone in the Green what things are really like out here.”

Julian grunted and started typing commands into the side of the Compiler. This one used the Divine Drive III’s, so the menu was much more in depth. However, he only needed simple commands for this.

>When Resources for Dunerunners Present = True, then produce one Dunerunners.
